Robust Construction for High-Performance Preliminary Treatment

Grit and Grease Scrapers are typically installed downstream of the screening unit and upstream of the primary clarifier or aeration tank. They are designed to remove grit, sand, and other abrasive inorganic materials that could damage pumps and mechanical equipment, while also separating emulsified oils and grease from the wastewater.

Aeration promotes the settling of heavy inorganic particles, such as grit and sand, to the bottom of the tank, while lighter materials, including oil and foam, rise to the surface. The accumulated surface layer is collected by a surface skimmer mounted on the travelling bridge and discharged into the grease collection hopper. Grit is removed either by submersible pumps mounted on the bridge or by bottom scraper blades, depending on the system design.

The travelling bridge is driven by steel wheels running on specially designed rails. All steel components in contact with water are manufactured from stainless steel. The bridge is supplied as standard in hot-dip galvanized steel and can also be manufactured from stainless steel upon request.

The Grit and Grease Scraper is equipped with its own control panel, allowing all operating functions to be controlled automatically. Integrated sensors ensure the safe and reliable operation of the travelling bridge.

How are grit and grease collected and removed?

Grease and foam accumulated on the water surface are collected by a surface skimmer mounted on the travelling bridge and conveyed to the grease collection hopper. Grit settled at the bottom of the tank is transferred to the grit collection point by either submersible pumps or bottom scraper blades. From there, it is discharged from the system for further handling or disposal.

The travelling bridge movement, scraping operation, and safety functions are monitored by sensors installed on the equipment. The collected data is processed by the PLC located in the control panel mounted on the scraper bridge, enabling fully automatic operation and control. This ensures safe, reliable, and consistent system performance.
