Girt Washer and Classifier
Compact Solution for Separating Organic Matter from Grit
Grit Washer and Classifiers are designed to separate and wash grit removed from wastewater, producing clean, inert grit that is suitable for economical disposal.
Although conventional grit classifiers remove inorganic particles from wastewater, a certain amount of organic matter remains attached to the grit. Over time, this organic content can decompose, causing unpleasant odors and increasing disposal requirements.
The integrated mixing system agitates the collected grit to separate the attached organic matter. As the grit is conveyed upward by the screw conveyor, it is thoroughly washed with clean water, removing the remaining organic contaminants. This process produces clean, inert grit that can be handled and disposed of more easily. Wastewater containing the separated organic matter is discharged through the motorized valve, while the clean wash water flows over the overflow weir. As a result, the grit, organic matter, and water are effectively separated from one another.
Manufactured entirely from stainless steel, Grit Washer and Classifiers are available in capacities tailored to the requirements of each application. Each unit is equipped with its own control panel, enabling fully automatic operation while minimizing manual intervention. In addition, by reducing the volume of grit requiring disposal, the system helps lower overall operating costs.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a Grit Washer and Classifier and a standard Grit Classifier?
A standard Grit Classifier separates grit from wastewater; however, a certain amount of organic matter may remain attached to the grit. A Grit Washer and Classifier incorporates an additional mixing and washing process to remove these organic contaminants from the grit. As a result, the risk of odor generation and decomposition during storage in the collection container is significantly reduced.
What are the operating cost benefits of a Grit Washer and Classifier?
By removing organic matter from the collected grit, the system produces a cleaner, more stable material with a lower disposal volume. This minimizes odor generation, simplifies transportation and disposal, and helps reduce long-term operating costs.
